Computing
Here at Grove Park, we understand that our children’s access to technology outside of school varies widely, and our aim is to give every child the knowledge, skills, and confidence to use technology safely, creatively, and effectively. Using the Purple Mash computing scheme of work, we provide a broad and exciting curriculum that builds children’s digital understanding year by year.
Through carefully planned lessons, pupils learn key skills in three strands of computing: Computer Science, Digital Literacy, and Information Technology. They explore how computers work, design and debug their own programs and use a range of digital tools to communicate and create. The use of Purple Mash ensures that learning is practical and engaging, with opportunities for pupils to experiment, problem-solve, and collaborate in a safe online environment. The curriculum aims to also use technology throughout all subjects and will allow every pupil a hands-on experience with a variety of hardware and software inside our computer suite, equipped with laptops and iPads to support children's learning.
Our approach ensures that children not only develop strong technical skills, but also learn to go online responsibly. Purple Mash has a key focus on Online Safety with a bespoke curriculum called 2BeSafe which is taught alongside the standard computing curriculum. With a focus on our school value of resourcefulness, we aim to broaden children’s perception of technology as a tool for learning, not just for entertainment at home. Using Purple Mash allows us to ensure the knowledge and skills taught builds year-on-year to deepen and challenge our learners. We aim to provide a computing curriculum that the children enjoy and value. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are confident, capable, and ready to apply their computing knowledge in secondary school and in the wider digital world.
